KITWE, Zambia, April 21 (UPI) -- A blast at an explosives factory in northern Zambia has killed at least 46 workers and injured several others.
The explosion occurred Wednesday morning in a factory workshop in Kitwe, the second largest city in Zambia and a large mining center. The Chinese-owned plant supplies explosives to local copper mines ugg magasin, the BBC reported.
An investigation into the incident has been opened, but plant managers said they believe it was an accident.
Zambian Mining Minister Kaunda Lembalemba told reporters that the victims had been badly burned or blown to pieces.
The BGRIMM Explosives factory, located on the premises of the Chambishi mine ugg stiefel, is a major supplier of explosives to Zambia's copper mines.
"We are still clearing the site boutique ugg," Wang Aide rivenditori ugg, managing director of the company, told China's Xinhua news agency. "We are still investigating the cause."
